Kieran is an actuary specialising in injury schemes, particularly workers compensation. He advises governments, insurers and self-insurers on their liabilities and the viability of their programs. His skills include reserving, monitoring, reporting, capital forecasting and reviews. He says:

“The injury schemes across Australia and New Zealand are unique to this part of the world. They provide an important safety net to thousands of injured workers or motorists, so their financial sustainability is crucial to ensure people get the care they need.”

Over his career, Kieran has played a key role in projects advising government on the financial impact of policy options to improve the financial sustainability of injury schemes.

In health, Kieran has advised government on activity based funding for hospitals, including for mental health. He has worked with linked data sets to assist with policy design such as analysing how people access services across regions. He regularly delivers technical findings to senior management in clear, digestible presentations.

Previously, Kieran was at a Lloyd’s syndicate in London, where he gained an understanding of the overseas insurance market and reinsurance.
